Write for us

Lively Conversation welcomes considered pitches about questions, listening, disagreement and the ways people structure group talk. We are looking for clear, original ideas for general readers, not scripts that claim to solve every difficult exchange.

What to propose

A strong pitch names one focused subject, explains why it matters to a reader and shows what the piece will help them notice or consider. We welcome explainers, comparisons, histories of discussion practices, examinations of common assumptions and guides to a particular conversational setting.

What makes a good piece

Keep the scope specific, use examples with care and distinguish personal perspective from claims about people in general. Avoid presenting one style of speaking as universal or promising that a technique will produce a particular response. Tell us how the piece would be distinct from material already on the site.

How to send it

Send proposals through the Contact page, choosing the editorial question option and including a working title, a short outline and any relevant writing context. Please send a pitch rather than a complete draft unless one has been requested. We cannot promise to publish or respond to every proposal.
